Here are some pictures of various Lakeboats. What is a Lakeboat? It's a ship which plies the Great Lakes moving various products from port to port. They rarely venture out to the Atlantic or beyond.

Above is the Cape Breton Miner used in the 60's to transport coal from Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia to the Toronto area. My father, George Bain, was instrumental in the conception of this ship. I was able to see the construction, attend the christening and sea trials as well as take a family vacation to Cape Breton Island.

Below is her sister ship the Ontario Power also used to transport coal.

Sadly, they were towed to Taiwan for scrap in the mid 1980's.

A Very Beautiful Shot Of The Soo Locks

This is a picture of the Canadian Transfer in the Welland Canal in Port Colborne upbound to Lake Erie shortly after her launching at Port Weller Dry Dock.

The picture above was taken from the Soo Locks web cam run by the Army Corps of Engineers in Sault St. Marie Mi. I thought it was especially beautiful. I also have a really weird looking shot.
